• Beautiful Vesterålen - next door to the blue ocean

With the sea as next-door neighbor, Bø in Vesterålen is the perfect place to spend a few days. Here you will stay in an old house, with its´ soul and history present. A visit here will take you back a couple of generations showcasing its history and local culture. The old post office is transformed into a cozy restaurant. The menu includes local homemade specialties, spiced with a touch of the northern coast-culture.

The beautiful nature and area will provide you with plenty of options of activities. Spend a day or two on the bike. Stop at the amazing beaches, visit the village museum, and get to know the story of “The man from the Sea” or visit the galleries. Many artists have been inspired by the nature in Vesterålen.

Visit Litløya and the old lighthouse, stroll around on the island before homemade lunch is served at the lighthouse. Maybe you want to try your luck of fishing on the way back?

Even in Vesterålen have the Sami people established their homes. Visit a Sami-family, listen, see and experience their everyday life. You will also be able to meet the reindeers. Bidos (reindeer stew), the national dish of the Sami people, is served for lunch.

You should also do as the Norwegians do, pack a “matpakke (lunchpack) and go hiking. Try to reach the highest peak on the island! Well back to the guesthouse, another beautiful dinner is served.

You can also try to become a fisherman for a day!

The island Gaukværøya (The Weather Island) was abandoned in the 1950’s with support from the Norwegian Government. The conclusion was that this island was to rough and cumbersome to live at. The houses were picked apart and only the foundations were left. Everything was shipped to the mainland for resettlement there.
