Here Christmas is celebrated in January, without Santa Claus, Christmas trees or gifts but with old symbolic Christmas traditions. Experience Christmas with a local family, with a traditional dinner consisting of 12 dishes, a magical candlelit atmosphere, Christmas carols and 'vertep' street performances. An experience you wont forget!

The experience is based in Lviv, a city on the west side of Ukraine. Wander around the narrow streets, discovering beautiful cathedrals, churches and chapels, the Bernadine Convent and medieval market, all decorated for Christmas. Visit the Shevchenko Open Air Folk Art Museum; stoll the snow-filled University Park, climb up the High Castle Hill for great panoramic views of the city or just relax with a cup of hot chocolate at the Lviv Chocolate Workshop. Travel for a day to Radekhiv, a village outside Lviv. Be part of Christmas celebration with a local family. Experience the atmosphere of the bazaars while shopping for vegetables along with the family. Then help make Christmas decorations and prepare yourself for an evening filled with ancient rituals, dedicated carol singing and mouth-watering home cooked traditional food.

Do not miss out of the festive Egat in Lviv. The local Christmas festival which attracts hundreds of visitors every year. Admire colorful traditional clothes, local amateurs compete in Christmas carols, artisans, street performers and locals filled filled with pure joy!

That one of the most dearest Christmas songs was composed by Ukrainian Mykola Leontovych in 1916. English lyrics were later added by an American composer Peter J. Wilhousky in 1936. In Ukrainen it is called Shchedryk ("Bountiful Evening") and in English we know it s ”Carol of the Bells”... the English lyrics starts off with;

Hark how the bells, sweet silver bells
All seem to say, "throw cares away"
Christmas is here, bringing good cheer
To young and old, meek and the bold
