• Kerala’s Culinary Trail

This is a fantastic opportunity to learn to cook Indian food while immersing yourself in responsible tourism along the River Nila in Kerala, southern India. Accompanied by local guides, your journey weaves together traditions, storytelling, culture, and folklore and daily life. Learn from local experts how responsible tourism is benefiting the local communities along the river.

Learn from the local women how to make the famous Indian Papadam, basically a tasty giant crisp! Get insights of the different uses of coconut, including the shell as well! Stay at a 400-year-old traditional house, an organic farm where you will visit the herb and spice plantations and chat with the ebullient family for the rest of the day. Learn about the different spices used in Indian food. Learn to cook the traditional food here, in a typical Kerala kitchen.

Continue onwards to Nilambur, a several hundred year old heritage property reflecting the age old traditions of a Kerala Brahmin family, and one of only 4 such structures remaining in the whole of the state. Focusing on sustainable living, this place strikes an excellent balance between traditional lifestyle and modern living. The two acres of traditional sacred grove inside the farm shows how biodiversity was once, and here is still being, sustained. Join the farmers in the paddy field for harvest or sowing depending on the season. Or visit the local school or the teak forest!

The cooking sessions are nicely combined with culture experiences.
