• Winter sun in The Gambia at an eco lodge

Wake up by the birds singing and the sun gives you an easy start of the day. Breakfast is served fresh at your convenience while you plan the day.

Staying at an eco lodge means that you all electricity comes from solar (no polluting and noisy generators...). The only freshwater-pool in the Gambia is beautifully integrated and excellent to cool down in on a hot day. A natural cleansing process and daily maintenance makes the water clear and clean, free of chemicals. No flush toilets, it is all compost. Many people are sceptic to composting toilets. However, we can assure you that they do not smell! The staff are well taken care off, and many have been here since the opening day in 2001. The kitchen provides fresh food, made by local seasonable ingredients.

This is a perfect base for you to explore! The peaceful beach is about 25-30 minutes walk, the same distance as Gunjur village. The area has many trails suitable for walking. Within short driving distance you can also visit the main attractions of the Gambia. The lodge also has its own craft centre with woodcarving, tailor and silversmith. Plus own guides for birding, nature and cultural walks.

Location: Gunjur. Gambia.
Best time to travel: November – May.
Recommended stay: 8 - 14 days. We recommend this experience to be combined with a few days up river.
