Spend an afternoon with Tharu Women Group in Chitwan, Nepal

In Chitwan, Nepal you can visit a local women group that makes beautiful handicraft. Spend some time with women and try to learn how to make baskets and other items of straw.

Chitwan is well known for its National Park and safari. But it is much more to do in the area. From cycling trips to village visits. There are several community initiatives and one of them is the Tharu Women Group. A very good day can include a visit to the Elephant Dung Paper Fabric and Shop to see the process and to buy some wonderful souvenirs like scrabble books. From there continue on to Tharu Village Museum for an introduction to the culture of the Tharu-people. End the afternoon together with the women and try to learn the local handicraft. It is not as easy as it may look like! You can also do your responsible shopping directly from the women itself. Enjoy your day!
