Together with Gunjur Dog Patrol, we’re raising €2,500 to vaccinate 500 dogs in Gunjur and surrounding communities in The Gambia.
€5 can vaccinate one dog and reduce the risk of rabies spreading.
Rabies is a deadly but preventable disease that affects both animals and people. Vaccinating dogs is an important part of preventing rabies from spreading through communities.
By the end of September 2026, we want to help vaccinate 500 dogs against rabies in Gunjur, The Gambia.
Starting on World Rabies Day, 28 September, we’ll vaccinate dogs in the field until our last shot. World Rabies Day highlights the global fight against rabies and the importance of prevention. For dog-mediated rabies, widespread vaccination of dogs is a key part of the solution. By vaccinating a large proportion of the dog population, we can reduce transmission, save animal lives and help keep communities safer.
Every dog vaccinated is one more dog protected, and one small step towards making the wider community safer.

Rabies is an incredibly dangerous but entirely preventable disease.
Dogs are responsible for around 99% of human rabies cases. Yet a simple vaccination can protect a dog and help stop the disease from being passed on. For communities where people and dogs live closely together, vaccinating dogs is one of the most effective ways to reduce that risk.
The World Health Organization recommends vaccinating at least 70% of dogs in areas where rabies is a concern. At that level, transmission can be interrupted.
This isn’t just about 500 dogs. It is about community. The people, children, and families.
One of the things that makes this campaign so tangible is the direct connection between a donation and its impact.
€5 provides one rabies vaccination.
€25 can vaccinate five dogs. €50 can vaccinate ten. €100 can vaccinate twenty.
Every vaccination we can fund gets us a little closer to 500 vaccinated dogs. And every vaccinated dog matters. All money raised during this campaign goes directly to vaccines.
Gunjur Dog Patrol works directly with dogs, dog owners and communities in and around Gunjur.

We will kick off the campaign on World Rabies Day, 28 September, and continue over the following days as the team moves through the community.
Our aim is to keep going until all 500 dogs have been vaccinated. The campaign is being organised through Gunjur Dog Patrol and the registered GreenBox Foundation.
GreenBox is part of our wider belief at Ethical Travel Portal that travel should contribute something to the places we work in – not simply take people there.
Sometimes that means thinking about climate and carbon, sometimes supporting local livelihoods, and sometimes it means something as tangible as helping protect the health and welfare of a community. This campaign is one of those times.
The ETP team is joining hands with Footsteps Eco Lodge to support the Gunjur Dog Patrol in making these 500 vaccinations happen.
